What a timeout really should be.
Hi friend, Did you know a timeout was never meant to be a punishment for a child? Unfortunately, that's the most common way it's used today. The original design of a timeout is this: The child is simply removed from the over-stimulating environment They are given a chance to take a break from whatever is aggravating their behavior They are gently guided to a place where they can calm down and self-soothe Think of a sports team taking a timeout. They just need a minute to regroup, come up with a plan, and RESET! Let's remember this when it comes to our kids. Timeouts are not a punishment, they are an opportunity to reset.
